Even if one is not in a health-related profession, it is still very important to learn basic first aid. You never know when one of your friends and family members will get hurt and need first aid supplies online. Below are some first aid techniques for common injuries:

Bloody Nose. The blood vessels inside of your nose are very delicate, so they can break very easily. If one of the blood vessels break, then a nosebleed can occur. In order to stop a nosebleed, you will need to have the person pinch his or her nose and lean forward slightly. Make sure that they do this for at least five to 10 minutes.

The person should not tilt his or her head back. This could cause one to swallow blood, and some of this blood could end up in the lungs. Nosebleeds usually stop within a few minutes. However, if the nosebleed does not stop, then you should contact a doctor. Additionally, if the person begins to experience other symptoms, such as dizziness or headaches, then you should contact a doctor.

Burns. Minor burns can be treated by running the affected area underneath cold water. You can also apply a cold compress to the area. If the burns are very large or deep, then you should contact a doctor. You should also call a doctor if the burns are near the genitals, hands or face.

Gauze and tap or bandage and antibiotic cream are the first aid supplies you will need to treat a minor burn. After you have cooled the burn, apply the antibiotic cream and then use a gauze and tape or bandage to cover the area.

Sprain. A sprain is an injury that occurs when the ligaments are stretched beyond their normal range of motion. Ice and an elastic bandage are the first aid supplies that you will need to treat this injury. You should have the person apply ice to the area every 20 minutes. You should also cover the injured joint with an elastic bandage and have the person elevate the joint. Encourage the person to stay off the joint for at least one day.

Do not apply ice more than 24 hours after the sprain. Heat should be applied after 24 hours because it helps increase blood flow to the area. Seek medical attention if the injury does not improve within a few days. This could be a sign of ligament tear, fracture or muscle tear.
